Special Thanks to our SNAC SPONSORS and DONORS

The SNAC Program has been funded through December 2011 through a generous grant from Chichester DuPont Foundation for $18,000, and one of our private donors for $2,500. The Clark Fund, founded in 1946 by Mary Chichester duPont Clark, invites grant applicants from anywhere within the boundaries of the United States. It devotes particular emphasis to programs concerned with the environment, education, health care and social services and to which the Foundation’s giving will play a pivotal role. www.chichesterdupont.org

The grant from Chichester DuPont Foundation has allowed the SNAC Program to develop a key unique feature of our school garden program: our ability to successfully integrate into the school culture. Other programs which are entirely driven by volunteers, with no direct oversight struggle with varying levels of volunteers and overwhelmed teachers who struggle to bring the children outside for "extra" activities. Many gardens struggle to be maintained or utilized on a consistent basis.

This funding has allowed our program to thrive and focus on curriculum integration. By funding adequate program support through the program director, we have been successful in thoroughly supporting the teachers’ utilization of the garden. As a result, we have much higher levels of access to the children that we have witnessed in similar programs. Our SNAC program director engages the children in the core curricular competencies, according the current classroom activities, thus reinforcing teaching objectives and successfully engaging the kids in their food and garden work.

Our program is poised to grow in ways we could only imagine a year ago, and we are very grateful to this funding and the possibilities that have blossomed through its support.

THANK YOU CHICHESTER DUPONT FOUNDATION!

CURRENT FUNDING STATUS: We are seeking funding to continue the program through 2012 through multiple grant applications. At this time for 2012, The SNAC Program has been awarded an additional $5000 from the Cigna Foundation for the program to continue and begin to expand.

The Cigna Foundation is an independent, charitable entity established to help enhance the health, well-being and sense of security enjoyed by people everywhere. It provides direct grants to nonprofit organizations working to create healthier individuals, families and communities. www.cigna.com

A family owned and local Garden Center is a great neighbor to SDSA and a generous contributor to the SNAC program, through donation of several yards of mulch and all the pilings we needed for the classroom areas. We also were able to purchase many needed items at cost through the generosity and kindness of this local business.
